Our first glimpse of Eriskay was in the fading light of a winter
afternoon in 1985. Snow lay on the ground from the mountains
all the way down to the sea; the frost was deep, the air crisp
and clean. This was the start of a love-affair with this beautiful
property, which we visited countless times and were privileged
to be able to purchase in 2005.

Eriskay, December 1985
First and foremost, this is our holiday home and refuge from
the hustle and bustle of our busy lives. But we want others
to experience the beauty and grandeur of this special corner
of Britain, to experience the relaxation that Eriskay offers
and to return as refreshed and renewed as we do.
We have often thought that the introduction Arthur Ransome
wrote to Swallows and Amazons, in which his love of the Lake
District was so clearly expressed, could easily have applied
to us and this enchanting corner of Scotland:
I have often been asked how I came to
write Swallows and Amazons. The answer is that it had its
beginning long, long ago when, as children, my brother, my
sisters and I spent most of our holidays on a farm at the
south end of Coniston. We adored the place. Coming to it we
used to run down to the lake, dip our hands in and wish, as
if we had seen the new moon. Going away from it, we were half-drowned
in tears. While away from it, as children and as grown-ups,
we dreamt about it. No matter where I was, wondering about
the world, I used at night to look for the North Star and
, in my minds eye, could see the beloved skyline of great
hills beneath it. Swallows and Amazons grew out of those old
memories. I could not help writing it. It almost wrote itself.
We hope you enjoy this website, and that it inspires you to
choose a break in Eriskay and on the Ardnamurchan Peninsula.
